All characters should have dreams or feelings that there is something about their past. What has your character dreamed or felt and thought of it? Tanym’s always felt a strong connection with those who’ve passed and has taken a childhood curiosity and turned it into a career. He feels a strong need to ‘protect’ those who’ve passed, although he’s frequently confused that ‘protect’ is the right classification that’s why he got into forensic pathology, he figured he could channel that feeling into answering the questions of what caused someone to pass.

Aesthetics
Height:
Weight/Build: Tall and thin, but fit
Hair: Dark Brown, almost Black
Eyes: Dark Brown
Skin/Other: White, a bit pale, due to his lack of time in the sun.
Description: Traditionally Hades has been depicted as a man with dark hair and a big dark beard akin to his brothers appearance. In his Mortal state Hades has kept his dark hair but doesn’t have the dark beard- although occasionally growing a bit of facial hair it’s never as grand as in depictions of him. He has a tall stature that comes off on the thin side, however he does try and keep fit so there is a little definition to his form. He is frequently seen in dark colors and while not working prefers to be comfortable in his clothing choice, but dresses in a button up and tie when at work.

Psychological
Personality: Hades is a world of contradictions, feared by most because of his position as God of the Underworld he isn't an evil man. His moods can shift (in an attempt to maintain a balance) between loyalty and vengeance, compassion and hate, a giving nature and a possessive one. In general he is a quick an impulsive man, while he is capable of planning and cunning, he tends to react more on his gut and passion. Quick to jealousy and pettiness at times, he is- for the most part- a man of his word. He doesn't, however, tolerate those who'd disobey him and is more likely to pay you favor if you show him the respect deserved and ask for it before taking. Mortal, a lot of these aspects aren’t as dramatic as they were when he was a god.

Biographical
Myth: Born one of the six children of Cronus and Rhea along with Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia, Hera and Zeus he, like his siblings (save Zeus) were swallowed by their father until Zeus freed them. Together they all challenged the elder gods and received the Helm of Darkness from the three Cyclopes. The helm rendered him invisible and allowed him to slip into the Titian’s camp and destroy their weapons. Once the Titians were imprisoned in Tarturus the three brothers drew lots to see who'd rule the three realms of the world. Hades received the underworld, the unseen realm to which the dead go upon leaving the world as well as any and all things beneath the earth.

Hades ruled the underworld alone, that was until he set his sight on the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, Persephone. While the story has throughout time put Hades in a bad light, he did seek her hand the honest way by asking Zeus for his blessing (without the knowledge of her mother). Hades, sure that Persephone wouldn't follow him willingly to the underworld he rose up and abducted her from a field. Of course when Demeter found out she wasn't too pleased and after letting the world go to famine Zeus requested that Hades return Persephone to her mother. While the stories say that Hades tricked her into eating the pomegranate seeds, Persephone knew full well what she was doing. Never fully pleased with the decision, Hades did conceded to spending only a third of the year with his wife, while she spent the other two thirds away from him.

Hades spent most of his time secluded from the other gods, while an Olympian he is never fully considered one of the twelve. While in the underworld he was completely cut off from the events of the world above, save for the passing of souls. Over time he found resentment for his brothers, feeling he pulled the bad lot. Persephone and his love for her is the only thing that kept him from turning into an uncaring tyrant.

Of course this love was put at risk when Pirithous pledged to marry a daughter of Zeus and picked his dear Persephone. He tricked him, and Theseus who accompanied him, by offering them a grand feast. Once they sat to enjoy snakes coiled around their feet and held them in the stone chairs. Eventually Theseus was freed when Hercules ventured to rescue him and requested it of Hades. Pirithous, however, remained in the chair as an example of why one should not pursue to take the wife of a god for themselves.

Hades did have a reasonable side that balanced out his impulsive however. Some clear examples of this is when he allowed Hercules take Cerberus so long as no harm befell him (and he was returned) or when he showed mercy to Orpheus who's music moved him when he ventured to the Underworld to retrieve his wife Eurydice. Hades allowed him to take her back providing he didn't look back until they reached the surface. When Orpheus failed to trust the god and did just as he was told not, Hades took Eurydice back, keeping his word.

While his love for his wife warmed many of the decisions he made with and without her he did stray twice. The first was with Minthe, who found the wrath of Persephone who turned her into the mint plant. Hades also strayed with Leuce and upon her death turned her into a white poplar tree.

Hades belief and enforcement of traditions with regard to the dead are best displayed in the stories of the Koronides and Askelpios. When King Kreon refused the burial rights to the dead warriors that went against Thebes, Hades with Persephone put a deadly plague upon Thebes. It wasn't until two maidens sacrificed themselves to appease the gods that it was lifted, and for their sacrifice they were turned into two comets. Askelpios was another who went against Hades by healing those who were sick and Hades requested assistance from Zeus who slew Askelpios with a thunderbolt. Would the god know that lifetimes later when he would be reborn he'd become a doctor himself, perhaps things would have ended differently for Askelpios.

War:
Before the Coup of Cronus: Always a conflicted man, Hades remained almost all of the time between the heyday to the Coup in his realm. As the world became more modern he became stricter, especially with regards to the living in his kingdom.
During the Coup: Hades tried to stay neutral, concerned with keeping the Coup from his kingdom, furious at the Titians release. Eventually though he was coerced into battle and eventually captured with the other gods.

Mortal: Born to Mina and Thomas Foster in America Tanym moved with his parents to Lamia when he was three. Mina was a Greek native who met her husband while on vacation in America. They fell in love instantly when she walked into the restaurant he worked at- he was their head chef and he spied her across the room when he’d gone onto the floor to speak with a table who’d wanted to compliment him on his cooking. Thomas knew he had to meet this girl when she ordered his signature meal and made sure that he could deliver it to her table personally. He’d worried when she ate it at a snails pace that there had been something wrong with it, but when she asked to speak with him after being one of the last table in the place at closing he found that all his worries were wrong. She’d loved his meal and ate it so slowly so that she would be able to talk to him without him having to leave quickly to get to other orders. That night, after he got off, he walked her home and from that moment on they knew they’d met their soul mate. At least that’s the story Tanym’s been told many times.

When Tanym turned three his grandfather got sick and so his parents moved him to Greece to help take care of him and his restaurant. Two years later he passed away, leaving his restaurant to his daughter and son-in-law. Tanym grew up in the restaurant, spending most of his days there. It was his parents wish to have him one day take over the place so he learned things from his father in the kitchen. Tanym, however, had a different idea of what he wanted to do with his life. Ever since he could remember he’d always had a fascination with death. It was never in a ‘let’s go kill things’ kinda way, but more of a curiosity of what happens in the afterlife. His first encounter with death was his grandfathers passing, and while he was too young to have clear memories of it, he did remember wanting to make sure that he moved on alright and went to heaven like his parents kept telling him he did. As he grew up his fascination got him curious in religion and how other people celebrate or mourn the passing of loved ones. He collected any book he could on the subject and when he was ten he’d even attend funerals of those he didn’t even know to observe. His father worried that there was something wrong with him and when he turned thirteen he made a conscious effort to stop and be a ‘normal’ kid.

When it came time to enter university Tanym had decided to pursue something that would help him feed his impulses and feelings. This lead him to the field of forensic pathology, which he studied at Cambridge in England. He worked hard in school and while learning didn't come easy for him he did well when he buckled down. Schooling in Athens opened him up for many temptations, but Tanym resisted feeling more comfortable studying by lamplight than being out partying with the rest of his schoolmates. Tanym had a few friends who constantly tried to get him out of his room and socializing with people, especially those of the opposite gender. No relationship ever seemed to work out though, there was just no... spark.

After he finished, Tanym started residency in anatomical and clinical pathology, after a six month period of mandatory testing by the government so he could practice and now, 4 and a half years later he's started his forensic pathology. He's currently living in a small loft apartment over a night club, which is why he's more than willing to take the graveyard shifts, preferring the ambiance of the night over the day anyhow. He spends a lot of time working, but has made it a point to try and get out to socialize more after some coaxing from the other doctors who said that he was starting to become more and more like the corpses they worked on- lifeless and dull.
