A new beginning. No, a re-beginning. For so long I thought I knew what my life was, where it was going, but now I see that it was just a poor imitation of what it is truely meant to be.

Tanym sat in his apartment, on his couch, Kirby curled up beside him snoozing soundly. He'd made a big decision and right now he really wished he wasn't alone, instead he wished he could be celebrating with the lovely Anne.

I don't know how to really find this person who I'm suposed to be, but I do know that I can't find that person if I'm stuck working ungodly shifts that differ from normal peoples. So, I made a choice to seek the truth. I figure if it ends up being true then why should I waste my time, and if it doesn't... I can always go back.

So I did it. I've taken an unspecified leave of absence from the hospital.

It had been a long, very long day at work. Tanym was coming off his second double shift in a row and all he wanted to do was go home and crash for- ever. Stifling a yawn he opened his locker, pulled off his white lab coat, plucked his hospital badge from the pocket and loosened his tie. With another yawn stifled he pulled his coat out and slipped it over his shoulders. He wasn't sure he'd be able to make it home at how tired he was and the thought of an on-call cot sounded too tempting, but he had someone waiting for him to get home and he couldn't stand him up. So, with a jolt of forced energy he lifted his shoulder bag from it's hooked perch and slid the small stack of medical papers he had to catch up on off the shelve and into his bag. The black book thucked on the floor to the confusion of the doctor. He leaned down and lifted it, the silver plaque read a bizarre name, but his above it was as clear as day. What the? It occurred to him that this could be a gift from another of the doctors for getting his fellowship- albeit would be a bit late- but he couldn't think of another reason. With a small shrug, too tired to try and think it out, he slipped the book into the bag as well and pulled it over his head.

A car was an unneeded expense in such a beautiful city, and even if he had one he would have no place to park it. Living over a night club meant that during the evening there was no place to park within a mile of his place, so he rode a bicycle. It also helped to keep him in shape, not having the time he'd like to, to keep in shape. So between riding his bike and running around the hospital he managed to get a decent work-out. After locking up his bike Tanym went up the back stairs to his loft apartment and opened the door. He was greeted by a friendly bark and furry beast trying to climb up his leg. "Hello Kirby." He said, dropping the bag off at the door and leaning down to pick up the small terrier. "Mrs. Leraas take you for a walk today?" The pup squirmed in his arms as he tried to lick Tanym's chin. Mrs. Leraas had been a life saver, an elder lady who lived in the building behind his had become Kirby's surrogate grandmother, taking the pup for walks and to 'do his business' (as she called it) when he worked double shifts.

Tanym put the dog on the floor and walked over to his bed, he stripped to his boxers and fell back onto the bed into dreamland. At some point in the night he'd managed to sleep-grab a pillow for his head and a blanket for his back. The terrier had found a comfortable position using his feet as a pillow- it was a good thing the man didn't kick when he slept.

Six hours later Tanym awoke to the soft beat that started below him, as the club woke up for the night. Cerberus(Kirby) perked up as well and tromped over to the window to look at the lights and people. Tanym for his part was not as interested in the bright lights, he had reading to catch up on before work. He walked across the loft to his bag and lifted it from it's position near the door. Dragging it back to the couch he plopped down and started to pull out it's contents. Now that he was more awake, he took a better look at the black journal, he hadn't been seeing things- it did have his name on it. A wonder as to where it came from, Tanym opened it up and read the first page thinking it was a note from whoever left it to him. He was right about the source of the note, but not the journal and curiously turned the pages to find pages already filled with text, each looking as to have been written by a different pen- and in English. How strange. Curiosity drove his actions and he dug out a pen from the bag and started to write himself.

(What a curiosity this is, this scientific mind is surely baffled. I doubt I have other personalities running around and logging their exploits in this journal that mysteriously found it's way into my possession, as I have no recollection of missing any time. So what marvel of invention is this, or should I trust the prelude and believe something beyond science is the cause of this? Either way, my curiosity is peaked and if it were not for the pile of reading I must do I would stay and investigate further. Perhaps another time.)

Tanym placed the book on the table and started to read through the papers. Eventually time caught up with him and he took the dog, who was doing the 'potty dance' at the door out and once he returned he readied himself for another graveyard shift, and (for once) looking forward to it's end and the start of his day off.
